Giving pelvic floor clients more exercises doesn’t equal more results πŸ’­

Trust me. I've been there and done it, and in my early days treating Pilates clients with PFD, I spent literally HOURS writing up client notes and individualising their homework, because that's what all the experts out there were telling me to do 😭
.
Tip: simplify and scale down the homework you give to clients with pelvic floor issues βœ…
.
When you give clients too many exercises, they soon become de-motivated because they've just got too many things to do 🀯
.
If you're prescribing a tonne of back-lying exercises to a postnatal client…well, let's face it - that's just an invitation for her toddler to jump all over her, isn't it? πŸ‘Ά
.
I actually work from an exercise system, starting with the foot and working my way up from there 🦢
.
Pelvic floor dysfunction is a whole-body issue (I think we know that by now), and giving clients manageable, achievable exercises (in standing) is the key to getting them to do their homework 🧐

Current feels: turning the spare room into an office space for me πŸ‘©β€πŸ’»
.
This room is our guest bedroom, and well, my partner and I are introverts with few friends - so, we thought we'd put the space to better use! πŸ˜‚
.
So far we've removed and dismantled the double bed and gifted it to a friend's 16-year old daughter πŸ›Œ
.
My partner actually made the original bed that was in this room with his own little carpenter's hands, so naturally I felt really bad… 😭
.
But, it turns out the bed was an absolute beast to take apart (like, 583 screws had to be removed before anything budged, so it was definitely initially built to last πŸ˜‚)
.
And, I must admit that there was just a teeny bit of cursing as we reinacted that scene from Friends with Ross and the sofa going down the stairs - "Pivot! Pivot! Pivooot!" πŸ›‹
.
The ceiling has been painted a fresh brilliant white (please don't judge us for not removing the horrid splat effect textured ceiling, but the only people who will ever see it are: 1) us, and 2) the small circle of friends who ever come to stay - har har!)
.
Where ARE our friends staying if this is now an office? πŸ€”
.
Well, my partner is going to build a foldaway bed that hides into the wall. Nifty, huh? πŸ›
.

Over on my IG Stories this week, I've been running an experiment on work/life balance πŸ’•

It's been interesting and challenging, but one technique I wanted to share with you today that really helps me get "work" done, AND "rest" done when needed is this:
.
The Pomodoro Technique πŸ…
.
Here's how it works:
.
πŸ–Š Write a list of tasks you want to get done
⏱ Set a timer for 25 minutes (this is the "work" phase)
πŸ‘©β€πŸ’» Get to work on that task. No distractions. Keep going. Stay absolutely focused, ok?
πŸ›Œ When the time goes off take a break
⏰ Set a timer for 5 minutes (that's your "break" phase)
βœ… Step away from your "work" during your "break" - no exceptions
.
I find it super useful for productivity but… what I've been doing during my "break" times this week is NOT automatically scrolling IG or Facebook, or something mundane... πŸ™„
.
I've created a "Things I Enjoy Doing" list, and in my "break" times, I've picked something off that list to fill my 5 minute "break" with (check out the "Life Balance" in my Highlights under my profile for ideas!)
.
Can you see how I've mixed business with pleasure there? Work and life balance, you see? πŸ™ŒπŸ»
.
(Oh, one more tip: I actually use my phone as my timer, and put my phone on the other side of the room, so when the alarm goes off, I have to get up, move and switch it off, so I kind of get some movement in there too!)
